Bahrain: Shi'ite Deputy PM

King Hamad of Bahrain has named a Shi'ite as one of Bahrain's three deputy prime ministers. The other two are members of the ruling family. However, I agree with the al-Wefaq analysis:

"However, Al Wefaq appeared unimpressed by the move.

"'At the moment the rulers do not care about Sunnis or Shiites, they just want their own interests as long as they have someone who obeys them,' Wefaq official Fahim Abdullah said."

That about sums it up, and it's why I'm hoping sectarian tensions in Bahrain don't escalate.
