Obama's Nobel

As much as I like President Obama, isn't it a tad early for this?
"President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said, citing his outreach to the Muslim world and attempts to curb nuclear proliferation.

"The stunning choice made Obama the third sitting U.S. president to win the Nobel Peace Prize and shocked Nobel observers because Obama took office less than two weeks before the Feb. 1 nomination deadline. Obama's name had been mentioned in speculation before the award but many Nobel watchers believed it was too early to award the president.

"Speculation had focused on Zimbabwe's Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, a Colombian senator and a Chinese dissident, along with an Afghan woman's rights activist."

The implication seems to be that you can now win the Nobel Peace Prize for giving a couple of speeches. Heads of state should have to meet a higher bar.

Obama welcomed the news by ordering 40k more troops to Afghanistan, a drone attack on Pakistan, and reviewing the military options for the Iranian nuclear program. Bono was quoted as saying, "REALLY? What do I have to DO?"

Agree it is early it should be interpretated for what it is, a nod from a Swedish thinktank for his efforts towards world peace; open hand towards Iran at beginning of presidency, tough play toward Zionist hardliners (they may or may not deserve the land but 100 to 1 kill ratio in regards to Palestinian Arabs is overkill) and the call for a nuclear weapons free world.
Surely the agenda of the Nobels is trying to tie Obama to this path of peace, how would it look if a winner of the Peace Nobel starts the biggest war of them all, and he still could.
