The day of the Mercaz HaRav attack, Hizbullah's al-Manar television network reported a claim of responsibility from an unknown group which was allegedly seeking revenge for the death of Imad Mughniyeh in Damascus several weeks ago. No one took that very seriously, but now anonymous Palestinian sources claim Hizbullah coordinated the attack with Hamas leaders in Damascus
. Israeli sources also say they are looking into Hizbullah connections
. In the absence of other claims, it is definitely plausible that Hizbullah decided to undertake this operation at a distance much like Israel probably took out Mughniyeh without leaving clear fingerprints.
