President Bush today continued his rhetoric against President Charles Taylor of Liberia, and is considering sending U.S. troops to that country. Despite the highly credible claims that Taylor has direct links with al-Qaeda, Bush is still not publicly linking the matter to the War on Terror, for reasons I have trouble understanding. Still, the administration deserves credit for moving on the matter, and West Africa will be a better place for it. (Incidentally, the al-Qaeda claims originate with Global Witness, not the Bush administration, and they extend far beyond conflict diamonds to plans to sow chaos in neighboring states and expand their mutual influence.)
